Welcome to Jazz Course UK, a long established independent provider of jazz workshops and short courses in the UK. Our jazz school has a year round programme that caters for all levels and age groups of both youth (10+) and adult musicians. We have been successfully organising jazz activities since 1994 when we founded our first and longest running jazz school in Cambridge. Since then we’ve developed jazz courses in Glasgow, in Edinburgh and at our base venue The Music Workshop near Lanark, in the scenic Clyde Valley in south central Scotland. Jazz Course UK enjoys an outstanding level of positive feedback which our students are invited to submit after every jazz course. For evidence of this high satisfaction level simply go to our extensive Testimonials page.

Jazz Course UK jazz courses and jazz workshops are very much designed for those musicians who enjoy learning through playing in a small group or combo setting. Learning to play jazz in a workshop group has been proven to be one of the most effective formats for improvisation based studies. Ensembles work intensively with an experienced jazz tutor who acts as teacher, facilitator and mentor to each group. On most of our jazz workshops numbers are deliberately limited to no more than around 10 students per group to maximise the learning experience.

Jazz Course UK recognises that our students have a variety of musical aspirations and learning curves. Over many years we have developed a comprehensive jazz studies programme to cater for a wide range of abilities from the novice improviser through to music college students,  professional performers and music teachers. Alongside our unique, progressive set of Jazz Weekendercourses in Scotland – which provide students the opportunity to learn jazz techniques, jazz theory applied in a very practical way, and relevant performance related experience in many styles up to an advanced level – we also run more general ‘taster’ workshops and courses at entry level. There really is something for everyone in our jazz study programme.

With Jazz Course UK you can receive tuition from some of the very best jazz tutors. Central to the success of our jazz activities is our highly valued jazz tutor team. As well as being musicians of international standing, it is the quality of their teaching, their adaptability and wide experience of teaching situations that we look for most in a potential jazz tutor. In addition we know that students value their approachability, encouragement, facilitating skills as well as their in depthknowledge of their instrument and field of expertise. In addition to our UK jazz tutors we have also invited many international guest tutors over the years from around Europe and the USA.

Each year Jazz Course UK runs jazz summer schools in both England and Scotland, currently in Cambridge and Glasgow. These popular weekend jazz summer schools held in July and August provide the student with exposure to a wide variety of jazz styles and an introduction to a range of improvisation techniques. Working in small to medium size mixed instrument ensembles students of all ages from (10 to Adult) gain hands-on practical experience in the art of playing jazz. As the courses are non-residential this allows us to offer high quality teaching for outstanding value. Our jazz summer school students from outside the local area normally book their own accommodation nearby and often combine the course with a city break.

We hope to see you on a course soon!
