INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED

This course is aimed at intermediate to advanced instrumentalists and vocalists. Prior improvisation experience is essential, all chromatic instruments welcome.

Set in the beautiful Scottish capital of Edinburgh, the 6-day Edinburgh Jazz Summer School based at the Jewel and Esk Valley College offers an exceptional opportunity to combine development in playing, recording and performing Jazz whilst enjoying one of the world's greatest and most diverse international arts festivals, the Edinburgh Festival.

What's more you can live on campus using the residential accommodation, enjoy on-site catering and leisure facilities at the college and take advantage of easy access to and from the city centre. 6 nights accommodation is included in the course fees (non-residential places are also available) and you may opt to extend your stay over either weekend before and after the course. The music facilities at the college are first rate and include 4 studios, 8 ensemble rooms, and main performance area. Amps and rhythm section equipment is available. Facilities will also be made available outside of course hours for rehearsals and more informal jam sessions.

Students on the course can expect a well structured programme focusing on improvisation, ensemble playing, performance and recording techniques, stylistic skills, Jazz harmony and composition and much more. There will be opportunities to perform in a public venue and to record a CD with fellow students. Guest tutors will also be invited as required and the details published on this website (click on the Tutors link above).

The course runs from 10-4.30pm each day. Performance on the final evening.
